Oops the last post was a mess!

Sorry…… so I’m reposting the same, it’s been a while since posting and I got the text too close to the pics.

As usual I have loads of ideas for projects and paintings, but I’m feeling a little rusty;  it requires a certain amount of courage to embark on a voyage of discovery paint-wise which can so easily end in feelings of failure and be a waste of precious time, so whenever I have a free moment I limber up by painting small and simple studies, which is always enjoyable….. mind you, sometimes they can be failures too!

The 1st two showing the first stage, then final stage. The 3rd one is a painting I did from the painting rather than the still-life itself, thereby removing myself from reality and giving me freedom to play with colour.

these are 10 x 10cm in acrylic

I painted this directly on board, I struggled a bit as you can see, so I painted them a 2nd time on canvas and closed in on the image more, I much prefer the softness the canvas texture gives, so the first one goes in the bin!:

I first spotted cranes starting their annual journey south in mid October, their mournful cries always create in me a deep-rooted sense of loss, the sensation often feels quite overwhelming and perhaps links to our ancient ancestors being so well tuned to nature: summer’s plenty has ended, winter’s struggles begin; intermittently,  flocks continue to fly over us well into November; a few stragglers flew over the house yesterday wheeling round in confusion till they found their bearings and headed south again.

Just now we’re having glorious days of sunshine after early morning frosts, the colours this year are wonderful:

    • Thanks Philippa! I just looked up your blog which took me to Riviera’s studio 2010! Fascinating! I’ve now found your latest one, and am going to work backwards in time, as I seem to have missed so many……xL

      • So far I’ve avoided Facebook….I’m sure I’m missing something, but don’t want to spend any more time on the computer. Although I can see it must be either/or as I’ve noticed blogposts are fewer and fewer from artists like yourself. I look forward to seeing a new one next week!!xL

  1. I love getting it, it’s come three times because it’s so good! Hope you’re well?

  2. Hi Liz, I hope you are not feeling too Autumnal sad!! It does affect some people that way! The paintings are lovely, do not ever put ANYTHING in the bin! We are off to see a friend for a few days, I do love the Ariege in Autumn but it has been super here too. I have been doing the randos with my little group of friends in some wild places which make us think we are hundreds of miles from civilisation, yet only a few kms from the coast and its hordes. Hope to see you soon, how was UK? lots love Sue xxx
